Southern Perspective – Episode 08

In this eighth episode of Southern Perspective, Mayor Lachlan McDonell offers a clear recap of the December 8th South Glengarry council meeting, with discussion centered on development planning, bylaw updates, community agreements, trail safety, and winter service decisions.

Council opened with a seasonal proclamation clearing the township’s airspace on December 24–25 to allow Santa and his reindeer safe passage before moving into municipal business.

Council approved an agreement to extend Concession 10 Road to provide access to a landlocked parcel, with costs covered by the property owner, and recommended draft plan approval for the 24-lot Riverview North subdivision off Lorett Drive, reflecting updated planning requirements.

Several planning bylaws were modernized to align with provincial legislation, including site plan control, grading and drainage standards, and shared engineering design guidelines aimed at streamlining development approvals.

Community-focused decisions included a new five-year agreement with the Martintown and District Good Timers, updated speed limits on the Peanut Line Trail to improve safety, and a time-limited continuation of courtesy snow clearing for a private laneway serving St. John Anglican Church while a long-term policy review is completed.

The meeting concluded with county and conservation authority budget updates, administrative motions, and closed session discussions.
