Southern Perspective – Episode 06

In this sixth episode of Southern Perspective, Mayor Lachlan McDonald offers a clear and direct recap of the November 10th North Glengarry council meeting. The meeting focused on infrastructure planning, community safety, and important upgrades to local recreation facilities.

Council began with the results of two recent bridge assessments. Engineering inspections revealed significant deterioration at St. Raphael’s Bridge on Frog Hollow Road, requiring major rehabilitation, while Sutherland Creek Bridge on South Service Road showed only moderate wear and will need a minor rehabilitation. These findings will help shape the Township’s future infrastructure priorities and capital planning.

Council also received an update from OPP Staff Sergeant Normand Lamontagne. Between January 1 and October 20, 2025, the SD&G OPP responded to 3,565 calls for service in South Glengarry—a 16% decrease from the same period last year. This drop may reflect improved prevention work, changing community patterns, or seasonal shifts.

On the community side, Council voted to waive the rental fee for Tartan Hall for the Glendaler’s annual Breakfast with Santa event on November 30, 2025. While staff recommended applying standard rental fees, Council opted to support the request, emphasizing the value of long-standing community traditions and the positive impact on families.

Finally, Council approved a $66,523 replacement of the dehumidifier at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre. The project, to be completed by CIMCO Refrigeration, will improve humidity control, ice quality, and overall energy efficiency. The upgrade aligns with the Township’s upcoming 2026 Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund capital plans.
