As municipal elections increasingly provide electronic voting options, one question understandably comes up frequently: Is online voting safe?
In Episode 5 of Glengarry Votes, hosts Jena Doonan and Kelli Campeau explain how Internet and telephone voting will work during the 2026 Municipal Election and some of the safeguards designed to protect the voting process.
Both North and South Glengarry will offer Internet and telephone voting, while North Glengarry will also provide a paper ballot option.
The episode walks residents through the process, beginning with the Voter Information Letter and unique Personal Identification Number, or PIN, provided to eligible voters. Jena and Kelli explain how PINs are used, how the system prevents a voter from casting a second ballot, and how ballot secrecy is maintained.
They also discuss testing of the voting system before voting begins and measures designed to prevent changes to the system once voting is underway.
For residents who need assistance, both municipalities will provide Voter Help Centres where election staff can assist with issues such as lost PINs, voter information updates and accessing online voting.
The objective is to provide eligible residents with a voting process that is convenient, secure and accessible.
📅 Municipal Election Day is October 26, 2026.
Glengarry Votes is brought to you by the Townships of North Glengarry and South Glengarry, hosted by Jena Doonan and Kelli Campeau, and produced in collaboration with Glengarry TV.
