Municipal Election Day isn’t only about electing a Mayor and Council.
In Episode 4 of Glengarry Votes, hosts Jena Doonan and Kelli Campeau explain another important part of the municipal ballot: school board trustee elections.
Our region is served by four publicly funded school board systems — English Public, English Catholic, French Public and French Catholic — with trustees elected to provide governance and represent their respective communities.
The episode looks at what school board trustees actually do, including their responsibilities for board policies, annual budgets and long-term planning. While trustees do not manage the day-to-day operations of individual schools, they play an important governance role across their school board.
Jena and Kelli also explain school support, trustee voting areas and some of the eligibility requirements that determine which school board election appears on a voter’s ballot.
For residents who are uncertain about their school support or which trustee they are eligible to vote for, contacting the municipal Clerk before Election Day can help ensure their information is correct.
