Connor McLaughlin – Live from Studio G – Darlin’
Raised in Monkland, Connor McLaughlin is a country singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in real life, honest storytelling, and the strong sense of community that defines Eastern Ontario.
Connor first picked up a guitar at the age of 14 after enrolling in a high school guitar class. What began as curiosity quickly became a passion, eventually leading him to write his own songs and perform throughout the region. While he jokes that his singing may never “blow minds,” it’s the songwriting that truly drives him. Inspired by legendary storyteller John Prine and local favourite Hughie McDonell, Connor has spent the last several years developing a style that blends traditional country with a modern sound—without chasing what’s currently on the radio.
For the past eight years, Connor has been performing in local venues, building a reputation as both a solo artist and band member. His songs are drawn from personal experiences, observations, and the people around him. He believes the best songs are the ones that leave listeners wondering, interpreting, and connecting in their own way.
Like many musicians in the region, Connor credits the vibrant local music community for helping shape his journey. From the Glengarry Highland Games to venues such as Lost Villages Brewery, The Atlantic Pub, Shoeless Joe’s Cornwall, and the support of friends like the Caddell family and Alexander MacMillan of AMAC Sound, he says Eastern Ontario has no shortage of people willing to support live music and original artists.
Away from the stage, Connor works as a licensed pipefitter, enjoys playing baseball during the summer, spends time hunting in the fall, and values life in the close-knit communities of SD&G. Despite being comfortable performing in front of large crowds, he admits that speaking to one is still something he’s working on—a reminder that even seasoned performers continue to grow.
Currently writing toward his first EP, Connor hopes to continue sharing original music while playing bigger stages across the region. More than anything, he wants his songs to make people think, feel something, and perhaps see a piece of their own story within the lyrics.
Connor’s appearance on Live from Studio G showcases five original songs that reflect his journey as a songwriter and his deep appreciation for the community that helped shape it. As he puts it, “SD&G has the best communities full of great people.”
